The cave paintings of Africa and Australia may be much better known but India has its fair share as well. I found this ancient painting on the underside of an overhanging rock in a pleasantly wooded valley about 30km south-west of Bundi. Judging by the style I guess it’s fairly recent – perhaps ‘only’ 2000 years old. But what does it mean – is it a man and a woman? Or a woman and a child? What do the barbs on their arms signify? The dots round their bodies or the circles round their heads?
